Mail setup – Apple Mail

Configuring Apple Mail for an IMAP connection (which we recommend over POP):

Incoming mail setup:

  1. From the top Mail menu, choose Preferences.
  2. Click Accounts.
  3. Click the plus sign + at the bottom left.
  4. Select Add Other Mail Account… and click Continue.
  5. Enter your name, full email address including domain, and your mailbox password. Click Next.
  6. Apple Mail will warn you’ll need to set up your account manually. Click Next.
  7. Select IMAP and enter the following details, then click Next:
    • Mail server:
    • User Name: (your full email address)
    • Password: (your email password)
  8. Enter the following details for your Outgoing Mail Server Info, then click Create:
    • SMTP server:
    • User Name: (your full email address)
    • Password: (your email password)
  9. Back on the Accounts screen, click the Advanced tab.
  10. Choose the following:
    • IMAP Path Prefix: INBOX
    • Port: 993
    • Use SSL: Selected

Outgoing mail setup:

  1. Back on the Accounts screen again, click the Account Information tab.
  2. Click the pull-down menu next to Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP), and select Edit SMTP Server List…. If the resulting page shows an Advanced tab, select that.
  3. Choose the following:
    • Use default ports: Selected (or else try Port 587 or Port 465)
    • Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): Selected
    • Authentication: Password
  4. Your account is now setup. Close the Accounts screen and click Save, then Get Mail.
